Groin Hernia

Groin or Inguinal hernia is the most common type of hernia. It occurs when contents of the abdomen protrude as a bulge through a weakness in the muscles of the groin. Inguinal hernia, which may be seen in one or both groins, initially starts as a small painless bulge and over time grows in size and becomes symptomatic. Sometimes it may be associated with serious complication like bowel obstruction or strangulation.

Fortunately, inguinal hernias can be repaired surgically with minimal pain or discomfort. Almost all patients are discharged home within an hour of surgery and return to baseline activity within the first week. Based on the nature, location, and size of your hernia, your surgeon will recommend either a laparoscopic or open repair. In experienced hands, laparoscopic method of inguinal hernia repair is associated with shortened recovery and reduced discomfort after surgery.

Dr. Zaré has been performing the modern method of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair called totally extra-peritoneal (TEP) repair since 2002. With over 2,000 repairs performed successfully to date, we have one of the largest experiences of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in San Jose and the San Francisco Bay area and our patients have been very satisfied with exceptional outcomes.
