Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery

Single incision laparoscopic surgery is a new approach in laparoscopic surgery. Using only a single small incision through the navel, your surgeon can perform simple to advanced operations with specialized instrumentation. Dr. Zaré performed the first single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (for removal of gall bladder) at Good Samaritan Hospital in 2008 and was among a handful of surgeons in the country at the time pioneering this innovative approach. The approach has now been expanded to other operations including single incision laparoscopic colectomy (for removal of colon).

With single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy, most patients leave the hospital immediately after surgery. With single incision laparoscopic colectomy, hospital stay is usually 3-4 nights. Most patients return to daily activities within 7-10 days.

At this time, single incision laparoscopic surgery is being offered to select patients with appropriate anatomy. If you are interested, please ask us for more information.

Dr. Zaré was invited to present his work at a panel discussion at the meeting of the Northern California chapter of the American College of Surgeons in 2010. You can view part of the video presentation from that meeting of a single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder) performed by Dr. Zaré below.
